This example is of Mahabharata period. Panchali i.e. Draupadi was married to five Pandavas and she remained as their wife. Even today the practice of polyandry is going on in some parts of Himachal Pradesh and Kerala. Here a woman is married to many men and she lives with all the men by harmonizing the time and gives birth to children from them.

This custom exists in different forms in different parts of the country. The practice of polyandry is prevalent in the tribal areas of South India, especially in the Toda tribe. Apart from this, this custom also prevails among the Nairs of Travancore and Malabar. If we talk about North India, then this strange custom is found in Jaunsar Bhavar, Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh and Malwa of Punjab. Here many husbands have only one wife. The children born from such a marriage are not considered to belong to any one but to all. These people consider themselves the descendants of Pandavas, in such a way they are still following the tradition of polyandry.
