Diabetes is considered a disease of increasing age, but with changing times, teenagers and youth are also falling prey to it. Every week, 5 to 7 such patients, whose age is less than 20 years, are coming to the OPD of Endocrinology Department of BHU Hospital. After investigation, the problem of lack of insulin production in the body of teenagers was found.
According to doctors, this is a symptom of type-1 diabetes. Due to its effect, there is weakness along with pain in the joints. World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on 14 November to raise awareness about diabetes. This year’s theme is breaking barriers, bridging gaps. People of almost every age are becoming victims of this fast-paced lifestyle.
Patients suffering from poor eyesight due to diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, arthritis etc. are reaching the hospital. Prof. of Endocrinology Department of IMS BHU. NK Aggarwal says that children falling prey to this disease is a matter of concern.
Parents are bringing 5 to 7 such children to OPD every week. Those who have problems like loss of appetite, weakness and fainting. After investigation, it is found that insulin is not being produced in his body. Such children are suffering from type 1 diabetes. Along with treatment, it is also advised to take special care of health.
