Expansion
After a year, the quality of the contaminated ground water around the three landfill sites in Delhi will start improving and people will get pure air to breathe, as these mountains of garbage will be completely gone. The monitoring committee, headed by LG VK Saxena, has set a target of completely leveling Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalswa landfill sites by May 2024, which is the final deadline. Work is progressing rapidly to eliminate 50% by August 2023, 75% by February 2024 and 100% by May 2024. This is expected to bring great relief to the people of Delhi.
If the mountains of garbage will not end in a year, then strict action will be taken by registering a criminal case against the nodal officers of the corporation associated with this project. The LG has made it clear that the deadline given by the MCD to clear the garbage mountain changes from five years. At present, a large number of large-sized trommel machines have been installed to cut the mountains of garbage.
Union Ministry of Urban Development is getting cooperation in this. The Delhi government has also become active regarding this. Inert waste soil from landfill sites is being used by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to make roads. It is being used for road filling at Mithapur and Dwarka sites. NHAI is also using this soil for planting saplings at several sites and for leveling of deep places.
A delightful place instead of mountains of garbage
At present, where three garbage mountains are standing, it is possible that in the coming time, people will get a green delightful green area there. This plan is completely in the womb of future, but MCD has talked to DDA officials for this. If DDA is ready to give land for this, then it will be possible.
80 thousand saplings will be planted this year
The corporation has set a target of planting 80 lakh saplings and 2.5 lakh shrubs in Delhi. Keeping in mind the G-20 meeting, it is the responsibility of the corporation to increase the green area along the roads. This winter, the streets of Delhi will look unique. During this, 150 parks in every corner of Delhi will be identified and made attractive.
Zero Waste Colony concept being successful
Zero Waste Colony concept of MCD is progressing fast. More than 100 colonies of Delhi have become zero waste so far. She is doing 100% disposal of her own waste. The corporation will increase their number this year.
