World Liver Day 2024: Due to bad lifestyle and poor diet, liver diseases are increasing rapidly. The number of people dying from its diseases is also continuously increasing. Since now even young people are falling prey to dangerous diseases like cirrhosis and liver failure, to make them aware, World Liver Day is celebrated every year on 19th April. According to WHO data released in 2017, more than 2.60 lakh people have died due to liver cirrhosis in India, which is 3 percent of the total deaths. Globally, India accounts for 5th place in deaths due to cirrhosis. Its percentage is 18.3%.
Why are liver diseases scary?
According to experts, liver problems are increasing even in young people. Diseases like fatty liver are becoming quite common. In most cases, liver problems and its symptoms are ignored, which can be serious. Many liver diseases are fatal, hence there is increasing concern about it.

1. Liver Cirrhosis
In liver cirrhosis, a lesion is formed in the liver, which is a permanent lesion, which not only affects the normal functioning of the liver, but can also be fatal if not treated in time. Liver failure is one reason for this. Liver cirrhosis can occur due to alcohol, drugs, infection with any virus and metabolic problems.
2. Liver infection
Liver infection is also a major factor in life-threatening liver problems. Infections like viral hepatitis cause swelling in the liver. In such a situation, the normal functioning of the liver gets affected, which can be fatal. According to the data, hepatitis B infection is estimated to cause more than 11 lakh deaths worldwide in 2022, most of which are related to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
3. Fatty Liver
According to statistics, fatty liver problems are increasing in many developed and developing countries including India. These diseases also occur in people who do not drink alcohol. This is called non-alcoholic fatty liver. Doctors say that the problem of fat formation in the liver can be treated, but in some situations, it affects the functioning of the liver. If fatty liver is not treated, there can be serious dangers.
