Zoya Akhtar Angry On Karan Johar: In Bollywood, the fees of actors are increasing with every film. The budget of films increases with the fees of big stars and when the film is not able to earn, the makers suffer huge losses. From Ajay Devgan to Akshay Kumar, the films of actors are not doing anything special at the box office. The films of these celebs are collecting only 3-4 crores on the opening day. In a roundtable, Zoya Akhtar has advised Karan Johar to pay less fees to male actors.
The Hollywood Reporter India conducted a roundtable of directors. In which Karan Johar said that there is a need to change the fees of male actors once again. On this, Zoya Akhtar interrupted Karan Johar.
Zoya gets angry at Karan Johar
When the discussion was about the fees of male actors, Zoya Akhtar said- ‘They will not know. But Karan, you just have to stop paying them. You have to stop paying them. That’s it.’ In response to this, Karan Johar said that he has stopped paying high fees to male actors.
Karan Johar further said- ‘What are your last two films? How much have you earned? By what right are you asking me these numbers? I had made a small film called Kill. I invested in it because it was a high-concept film and it had newcomers. Because I have started making it, it was a high-concept action film. You could not make Kill in any other way. It had to be on the same train. Every star asked me for the same amount of money as the budget. I was thinking, ‘How can I give you money? When the budget is Rs 40 crore, you are asking for Rs 40 crore? Are you guaranteeing that the film will earn Rs 120 crore? There is no guarantee, right? So finally, I took a new boy, and he was an outsider, I must say this.’
Karan said, ‘When it comes to viability, there are only 6 male actors, so producers have to cut the pie again to empower younger actors.’ Zoya also argued that the technical crew should be paid well as the male star currently takes 70% of the budget. Karan said that some younger male stars want to charge 40 crores, yet do not want to take risks in terms of their acting choices.
